If you didn't know, you can make X-ray machines to see through the terrain and find many cool things!  A lot of these machines were broken by the 1.7.2 update, however you can still do them if you know how. First you build it in the ground like this. X X F A X X X=Dirt/Ground X F A X F=Fence X X X X A=Air Go against the fence as far as you can and place redstone or TNT against the fence then go into the redstone/TNT and you'll be able to see in the ground  ! |

This is pretty cool when it is not being used to exploit caves and ores. What is weird is that after a few seconds of staring into the ground you see the tnt texture instead. Also it is impossible to place redstone on fencing.

Yes, this is to be used as a tool to light caves for dark room spawners to be more efficient.

Also the 1.7.4 update broke the X-Ray machines even more. Try 1.7.2 I think that the texture will not revert back to normal or at least not so quickly

All my worlds are in 1.7.2. Also as a side note I make darkroom spawners all above ground and very high up in the air. Like this, the mob rate will be much slower outside of the spawning chamber and the mobs can also take a lot of fall damage when they get funneled outside of the spawner.

Yes, I also make mine very high up. A lot of people do their's underground but you have to dig out a big hole so it's better to build up.
