To get started, this is a guide on the grief prevention plugin for those people that have trouble claiming, managing your claim, and giving various types of trust to other players.
The most essential item you need to make a claim is a golden shovel. These can be bought at spawn for one hundred dollars, or you can craft one up.
Claim blocks: (Starting amount and obtaining more)
/buyclaimblocks
When you join the server, you will start with four hundred claim blocks. Use these blocks wisely, because when you run out, the current cost for a claim block is two hundred dollars. To buy more claim blocks, just type in /buyclaimblocks <amount of blocks>. It is unnecessary to buy more claim blocks until you run out of your four hundred blocks. It should also be noted that you can not make a claim inside of a different claim, nor can you claim blocks inside of spawn. A useful tip is to right click a stick on an area to show if the land is claimed.
Making a claim: (Initial claim and further claims)
Once you get out into the wild and you are ready to make your first claim, all you have to do is put down a chest. It will make a 10x10 claim around the chest. This can only be done once, and to claim anymore space after your first claim, you will need a golden shovel. Now that you have made your first claim, it is impossible for any other players to hurt you inside the claim, kill your mobs, loot your chests, or grief your buildings. It should be noted that if you put mobs in your claim, be sure to put them in a fenced in enclosure, because players can still push mobs out of claims, or lead mobs out of claims using wheat, seeds, or carrots. If you want to put a hostile mob in your claim, Be sure to surround the mob with blocks, for other players can still hurt hostile mobs in your claim. Also, be sure not to build outside of your claim. Right click your stick onto your claim to see where the boundaries are.
Now, say you are ready to make another claim somewhere else. This claim will require a golden shovel, so be sure to get one before you make the claim. When you are ready, right click your shovel on to the ground. You will see a diamond cross appear. The block in the very center of your diamond cross is the corner of your claim. Now, go to the opposite side of the corner. By right clicking again, you would have made your claim appear. The minimum size of a claim is 5x5, so to claim a 5x5 area, just count five blocks away from the center of your diamond cross, then count five blocks upward. Right click the block, and your claim will have appeared! For many people, claiming is very difficult because finding the opposite corners of your claim can be confusing. A way to make this easier is to stake out the area you want to claim with a bock. For example, you can put two dirt block on opposite ends, and when you are ready to claim, simple right click both dirt blocks. Another suggestion is to make a claim before you make a building. Like this, you will have more of a sense of space into where you can build your building. It can be very confusing if you build a building before you claim it, so I advise against it.
Trusting players:
/trsut <playername>, /accesstrust <playername>, /containertrust <playername>, /permissiontrust <playername>
Now that we have finished with the basics of claiming, lets move on into some in depth ways you can manage your claim. Lets say that you want to share your claim with a friend. All you have to do is stand inside your claim and type in /trust <player name>. This will give the player full trust over everything inside your claim.
But lets say that you only want your friend to open doors and press levers and access trapdoors and gates. Type in /accesstrust <player name>, and this will give your friend access to beds, levers, buttons, doors, trapdoors, and gates. This player is limited to getting access through your claim, but he can not open your chests, nor can he build on your claim.
But lets say that you now have a higher level of respect to your friend. You think that it might be okay to give your friend the ability to open your chests, crafting tables, enchanting tables, furnaces, dispensers, and more. Type in /containertrust <player name>. Now, not only does your friend have access to beds, buttons, levers, doors, trapdoors, and gates, he can also access your chests and any other item that can contain items in it. Your friend can access all these items inside of your claim, but still is unable to build on your claim, nor can he hurt any mobs on your claim.
Now, say that you have any even higher level of respect towards your friend. You think that he is ready to have full access to your claim, and every block, item, and mob in it. Simply type /trust <playername>, and your friend is practically the owner of your claim. But he is not. He still does not the power to grant other players access to your claim.
If you think you are ready to make your friend the second owner of your claim, if you think he is wise enough to trust good players into your claim, but not bad players, then you can type in /permissiontrust <player name>, and your friend now has the ability to trust other players onto your claim. But we are not done yet.
Subdividing claims:
/subdivideclaims
Say that you want to start a town, where people can build their own houses, but not grief their neighbors houses or grief the road. All you have to do is hold your golden shovel and type in /subdivideclaims. This will switch your shovel to subdivide claim mode, which will allow you to make a subdivision of a claim inside of a larger claim. You create the subdivided claim space the very same way you create a normal claim. Inside the subdivided claim, you can give a player trust without giving the player trust over the larger claim. You can make a town this way. The lots where people can build their houses will be subdivided claims. The town roads will be part of the normal claim, and people will not be able to grief them. If you are planning to build a community work area, and you are planning to add workbenches, chests, anvils, enchanting tables, and more, you can make the work station a subdivided claim, but you will only give the town residents container trust to the work station.
Expanding and abandoning claims:
/abandonclaim
Now, say that you want to expand your town claim and make it larger. Simply right click one corner of the town with a golden shovel, and then go to the opposite corner. What you should then do is go out however many blocks you want from the opposite corner, and right click the new corner. This is called resizing your claim. Resizing a claim is very tricky, and one mistake could turn into a disaster where half of your town might become unclaimed. Like I said earlier, you should plot out the new location of your opposite corner, so it will be easier once you are ready to resize your claim. Now, lets say that you are tired of your old claim. You want to pack your bags and go live in your new town, which you are now the owner of. Above that, you need the claim blocks back from your old claim, for they will help expand your town. All you need to do is stand inside of your old claim and type /abandonclaim. The plugin will ask you to confirm your claim deletion by re typing /abandonclaim. When you abandon your claim, you will get all of your claim blocks from your old claim back. Be warned, though. I greatly advise you to take all of the items outside of your chests, for once the claim is abandoned, anybody can come and reclaim it. Hopefully, you emptied your chests of your valuables in advance, and you are now ready to live in your new town.
Hopefully, this in depth look into the grief prevention plugin helped. For more information on claiming land and the grief prevention plugin, go to the link provided in onda's thread. Or, type /help ingame. - oldmanNickerson
